![]() Their first four albums are pretty indispensable Thrash Metal must-haves that I am very find of. ![]() ![]() Much like Motorhead were, they were constantly on the road or pumping out album after album, flying the flag and keeping the faith over the years (and still are) whether the media were paying attention or not. Overkill are one of the hardest working, relentless, dependable bands in Thrash Metal. When that is said a 3 - 3.5 star (65%) rating is still deserved. There´s little here to criticise in terms of general quality of the product, and the album is entertaining enough while it plays, but it needs a couple of highlights to really shine. And that is the overall impression I get when listening to "ReliXIV". Not many tracks stand out on the album, and although tracks like "The Mark" and especially "Old School" do stand out, they aren´t exactly the most interesting tracks the band ever wrote. So it´s in the songwriting department where "ReliXIV" could have been a stronger release. It´s still a solid release though, featuring strong musicianship and a professional sound production, which suits the material well. So overall "ReliXIV" is not the most innovative nor the most distinct sounding Overkill album. The groove element the band added to their music in the mid-90s is still here too (listen to some of the riffs on tracks like "Love" and "Bats In the Belfry". Stylistically the material on the 10 track, 50:57 minutes long album more or less continues the same thrash/heavy metal style of the last couple of albums by the band. It´s the successor to "Killbox 13" from 2003 and features the exact same lineup who recorded the predecessor. The album was released through Nuclear Blast Records in March 2005. "ReliXIV" is the 14th full-length studio album by US, New York based thrash metal act Overkill. This along with a relatively well sounding production, makes "Immortalis" one of the better albums in the less remarkable part of Overkill´s discography. The material is well written too and compared to the predecessor, "Immortalis" features a few more tracks which stand out. This is obviously a skilled and seasoned band playing and right from the opening track "Devils in the Mist" to the closing track "Overkill V" we´re treated to high level performances. "Blitz" sounds as driven and rock´n´roll badass as ever with his rough voice and screaming vocal style, and the rest of the band also deliver their parts with the right amount of conviction and passion. Stylistically the material on "Immortalis" continues the thrash/groove/heavy metal style of "ReliXIV (2005)". A promotional video was shot for "Skull and Bones". Randall Blythe (Lamb of God) guests on vocals on "Skull and Bones", singing with Bobby "Blitz" Ellsworth. It´s the successor to "ReliXIV" from 2005 and features one lineup change since the predecessor as drummer Tim Mallare has left and has been replaced by Ron Lipnicki. The album was released through Bodog Music in October 2007. "Immortalis" is the 15th full-length studio album by US, New York based thrash metal act Overkill.

The voice acting is somewhat lacklustre with Geralt’s gravely voice being delivered in a constant monotone and many of the other characters echoing his performance. Encounters like the one above have sprawling dialogue trees enabling you to craft Geralt’s demeanour as you see fit. The Witcher 2 is also completely voice acted with every character in the game having a range of dialogue lines. Still the game does have some fantastically lush environments ranging from sprawling cities to deep, dark forests all of which are done exceptionally well. However after re-tweaking the settings and jumping back into the game it wasn’t different visually so I have to assume that the one setting that said “only for high end machines” is actually just a poorly coded feature. In fact this was the first game to bring my machine to its knees after turning everything to its absolute maximum, no small feat considering Crysis 2 barely made it break a sweat on the same level. Graphically the game is quite impressive. Still there are enough characters who appear to know Geralt solely from his exploits in the first game to make it look like playing the original would be worth it, even if they’re inconsequential to the overall plot. This gives people like me a rather interesting in for being able to play the sequel without playing the first since Geralt is still recovering fragments of his memory as the game progresses. From what I can gather the original Witcher started off with Geralt completely losing his memory, thus forcing him to relearn all his training once again. As such he has vivid yellow eyes and the ability to cast Signs which are in essence just spells. ![]() You play as Geralt of Rivia, a “Witcher” which is a person who was extensively experimented on by wizards and sorceresses as a child. ![]() What followed was definitely one of the more interesting RPG experiences I had and confirmation that my general rule for playing games in sequence is the right way to go. The Witcher 2 then comes in as one of the few games where I’ve broken this rule, having not played the original game but after many recommendations I decided to give it go. It can be a real chore sometimes when the games preceding the current release have excessive amounts of play time (I’m looking at you, aptly named The Longest Journey) but I figure that should the sequel be any good than so should the original. If a game comes out that has a sequel I’ll usually have to play the original first before playing any of the others, unless it’s a strategy game or something where the plot isn’t as important. ![]() I’m a bit of a stickler when it comes to playing games in sequence. ![]() Other Repos to use if you want a preview or development version of the software. The trade mark is “well known” and the Pandora mark would likely indicate a connection between the goods or services of Pandora and PayPal – a possible connection could be made, but at a stretch. The goods or services are closely related or in the same description and are likely to deceive or confuse – most people will not confuse Pandora’s services with that of PayPal.The Pandora mark is substantially identical or deceptively similar in relation to goods or services provided by PayPal – they are not even closely related services.PayPal says that “There is a demonstrable nexus between PayPal’s and Pandora’s services, starting with the fact that the companies are in direct competition for the precious ‘real estate’ on the screens of consumers’ mobile devices”.Īlthough this case will be played out in America, if it were in Australia, to be successful PayPal would need to be successful under one of the 3 following circumstances: Here, the Twitter user isn’t actually confused that Pandora suddenly became a payment processing application, but rather that the logos are similar. The law’s primary focus is in keeping the public from mistaking the origin of a product. Yes they are both a blue ‘P’, and PayPal insists the similar logos are causing confusion for their customers.Īrguably though, this confusion isn’t the sort of predicament that trade mark law sets out to manage. It’s over these two logos that PayPal has filed its lawsuit in America: PayPal’s mark actually consists of two overlapping and slanted “P’s”, whereas Pandora keeps it to one. By comparison, PayPal’s logo, active since 2014, also features a minimalist-looking “P” in a sans serif font and sporting a blue colour palette. The colour scheme was also changed from midnight blue to a softer shade of blue. In October 2016, Pandora announced it was redesigning its logo from a thin, serifed “P” into the chunky, sans serifed “P” that it is today. With that in mind, it is interesting to consider the situation where PayPal customers would be confused with the music sharing platform Pandora. The fundamental concern relating to infringement is that real or potential customers are confused as to the source of a product or company because of a conflicting brand image. ![]() The premise behind trade mark laws is to permit companies to utilise unique identifies such as branding in order to distinguish themselves. Did Pandora Radio steal PayPal’s logo in a feeble attempt to attract its visitors? Or was it just a mere coincidence? The wealthiest Americans donate, on average, 1.3 percent of their income to charity the poorest give about 3.2 percent. As he says in the book, donating money is easy getting involved and making a difference is hard. It doesn’t require a fortune to make a big change to a community. He went on to establish charitable foundations for children, Jewish charities, war veterans, medical research, and free enterprise. His father was a cabinetmaker and his mother a garment worker (who survived the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire, a dark moment in US industrial history). Marcus’s parents fled the poverty and pogroms of Russia to make a new life in the US, via Ellis Island. Ron Daniels, president of Johns Hopkins University, commented: “Bernie is living proof of the power of not only doing it yourself, but also of giving back - and Kick Up Some Dust embodies this ethos.” The Financial Times described it as an extraordinary story that tells his version of the American Dream from tenement to boardroom, “homespun into lessons for readers wanting to make it in business or philanthropy”. Atlanta’s Jewish Times called Marcus’s book a call to think big and change the world. Kick Up Some Dust is particularly relevant in today’s uncertain and self-obsessed world. By pairing musical sequences with short, episodic stories that complexly reflect on notions of temporality, Adventure Time makes its own argument that animated fantasy can function as the perfect vehicle for encouraging active, fantastic, and imaginative viewer engagement with their world.ĭespite most episodes spanning only eleven minutes, Cartoon Network’s Adventure Time has an ability to ‘interplay between the demands of episodic and serial storytelling’, which manages to create ‘narratively complex television’ (Mittell 2006: 33, 38). With special attention to Adventure Time’s use of music and fascination with time, the series finale, ‘Come Along with Me,’ acts as a concluding argument to a 283-episode long thesis. Using Jason Mittell’s notion of narrative complexity as a lens, this post will identify how a seemingly unobtrusive children’s cartoon managed to maximise the use of its narrative tools and its exemption from the logic of reality to create a story that transcends all categorisation. Adventure Time takes advantage of the very non-reality of its animated form by incorporating fantastical and musical sequences, elements that might stand out from a live-action show that, by nature of its physicality in the real world, cannot as easily convince viewers to suspend all notions of rationality. With themes of temporality, cyclicality, the apocalypse, and growing up, the narrative of Adventure Time seems to be in direct conversation with its time-constricted episodic television format, as well as the time-and-physics-bending medium of animation. In September 2018, after ten seasons following a human boy named Finn, his adoptive brother, a shape-shifting, talking dog named Jake (Fig.1), and their zany hijinks, quests, and adventures in the post-nuclear apocalyptic land of Ooo, cult-pop cartoon series Adventure Time (Pendleton Ward, 2010-2018) finally drew to a close. |
